Last weekend i headed up to Aviemore in the east Highlands to try and catch the last bit of snow underfoot for this season of winter.
In previous years i have been skiing and climbing around the Cairngorm, early starts and long days out on the plateau. This season was different. I still headed into coire lochan and coire an t’sneachda but i could see that the conditions were no ideal. I could see black rock in the coiries and mild temperatures did not guarantee much. I headed back down the valley and head down to Glenmore forest. The colours in the woodland were burnt, autumn esque.
The importance of a plan B to save the day is important. No skiing or winter climbing in my schedule this season but a good time nonetheless. Maybe winter season. Fingers crossed.
