At the weekend i were joined by Pam and Naomi in Snowdonia. Both of the ladies were hoping to summit Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales at 1085 meters/3560 feet. Although Naomi had been to the top of Snowdon before the weather on the day plays an important factor in the success and pleasure of the ascent.
We set off from Llanberis in high spirits. With a mixed weather forecast that was deteriorating from mid afternoon onwards we knew that there would be not a lot of hanging around.
As we started walking uphill i were keeping a close eye on the clouds. At around 600 meters of height we came across a prolonged spell of low cloud. This is not uncommon. We decided we should stay closer together and keep walking briskly after our short break. Extra layers of clothing keep you warm on your short breaks.
As we headed further towards the summit of Snowdon the wind began to increase in speed. I was prepared for gust of around 55mph as this had been forecast. Communicating with people in these conditions is hard work.
Our effort paid off as we reached the top of Snowdon safe, well and even stopping for a photograph. Once inside the refurbished cafe we drank plenty of fluids and eat our food. What a good job has been done of the cafe.
We were not tempted to take the train back down to Llanberis even as the weather got slowly worse.
On the descent we walked and talked about mountain flora and lichen that was in abundance. It was a prime time of year to see so much in the national park.
Well done to Pam and Naomi on reaching the top of the Snowdon. Not as easy as it may seem in strong winds. Superb effort ladies.
