After watching the weather religiously and getting very jealous about wintery conditions in parts of Scotland we finally got a smattering of snow in the Peak District. A few hours of snowfall last night has left the local fells covered in fresh powder.
Mid morning i shot out on my usual run up to roughly 560 meters and were treated to a gorgeous snowy landscape. It was quite a physical run at times due to snow drifts above knee height in places but well worth the effort. As i was plodding around near the summit of James Thorn i happened across a fast group of lady fell runners from Glossopdale Harriers, the Glossopdale Babes. They were making it look all to easy and after a quick chat they shot off down the hill as i continued upwards. Later as i descended i bumped into another friend where we discussed if there was enough powder to ski at the moment. We agreed it was possible but you would have to pick you aspect quite carefully to maximise your enjoyment.
If you are interested in scenic trail or fell running guiding then please get in touch as this would be a great time of year to experience the winter countryside. I work with clients of all abilities and experience levels and i tailor the day (or half day) to your requirements. Come and explore this beautiful national park.
Take a look at the below photographs to get a glimpse of the Peak District in fine winter form.
