Today was one of the first of a series of free guided walks that i am organising to raise the profile of Trekking Skills, my new shiny business.
I was joined by Praveen, Nilufer, Helen, Leanne, Sally, John, Viv, Rueben, Harry, Cheryl, Jemma, Jan, Saranya and Ashwanth for a prospect of summiting Mam tor in the Peak District.
As we set off from Castleton the good spell of weather had seemed to desert us.
No sunshine and a gusty 20-25 mph wind was blowing us around near Hollins Cross. Walking towards the summit of Mam tor we talked about the history of the Peak District national park and its recent 63rd birthday. We also chatted about the late bronze age / early Iron age fort that once stood at this key point in the landscape.
After a short break we headed down to Castleton past the Blue John mine and Treak Cliff Cavern talking about the different rock types that divide the Peak District into essentially two halves.
A great sociable day out with lots of new friends made. I hope to see you guys again soon.
